Some in, Some out, All good!

I have a change to my stash report!

Yay! It has been a slow start this

year but I finally have another finish.

Surprisingly , it looks a lot like the

last one only larger!!

This twin pink quilt is destined for

the Zebra foundation . It has a Hobbs

80/20 bat with an up cycled

sheet (wrong size for the spare bed)

on the back in wonderful soft and happy colours.

Oh look, a bit of orange there too!

The quilting follows the edges of the colour bars

of the courthouse step blocks and I machine bound

all this pink delight with a scrappy binding.

Finishing out at 64 x 72 inched it makes a nice twin.

That brings my totals up to:

2023 STASH TOTALS

Sunday Stash Report

Who's in a Bind?

Wow, finally lots of binding going on here!

This is what I ended up with after a busy few days,

hiding from the smoke and sewing into the wee  hours.

First scary pictures of smoke and fire, yikes.

Rest assured, the cows are safe!

Now a happy picture of quilts with binding ready to

sew from Friday night!!Woot woot!

Four , count'em, four quilts to bind!

Friday Night Sew In, I made up four sets of

binding and solved 2 mysteries with some cute

Aussie detectives!  Saturday morning, I virtually

stitched on one complete binding with a group from

all over at  The Idiot Quilter's pop up online sew day!

Lots of stitching and lots of fun!  They started up at 6 my time

and had a little lie in and joined them just after 7am.

 It was fun and surprisingly,

I finished the entire binding on a twin sized pink quilt. Yay!

Look at this killer corner!  My sewjo was on!

We chatted about subscription boxes during the sew day and

a few good ideas came up. One in progress, trading by mail, is

selling unwanted or " just not my style" fabric or swapping

with a group , reasonable pricing and

great fun getting packages in the mail.

The other, (my suggestion) just sending your UFOs

out to people and hope they return them finished!

What, no takers, so disappointing!

Any way, a fun morning before we went out into the smoke and

helped some of our kids plant a garden.

Not quite abandoned! RSC

Argh.  I had planned all my RSC projects

and made the fatal mistake of choosing one

with too much white!

So instead of sending

the blocks to the orphanage,

they've been redesigned into something different!

First I tried to make the crumb scrap Irish Chain

but in a small size. It looked incomplete with only

the six large blocks  sooo,

I moved them around a bit and came up with

something that looks a bit like a small hills.

Still needed a little bit of something,

I dug into the wonky star pile and added them to the

sides to make the ratio more appealing.

After a few switches of the colors,

I came up this arrangement! More stars finished

out each side and the size is good.

I am calling it Toddler's staircase.

My flurry of making backs and pinning, created some

larger bits and a nice stripy back will suit this little blue baby.

The stars spice it up nicely and it is a

good save for a project that lost it way!

Stay safe and find a good place for those

abandoned blocks.

Almost mid year! Stash report!

My oh my!  I looked at stash reports

this morning and not only am I big

on the  intake side, I am behind

on tracking.  Here is a quick review!

I track my scraps/culled fabrics out

so I have that.  I received 2 larger gifts of

fabric so there's a big plus.

There are lots of tops in the vault ,but

those do not count until the binding is

on  (but I do have 7 twin size tops so I am making progress!)

There are 3 quilted and waiting for binding.

One more is under the needle.

Finishes this year have been few but great

to work on.

A big wonky finish for a family set,

baby log cabin to match,

and a repurpose of some RSC blocks

into Toddler's Steps.

So this year looks like :

2023 STASH TOTALS

Used last week:           17 m 1 queen 2 baby quilts

Used year to date:       17  m

                                      Scraps out               7.5 m

                                   (1 bag=/.5 k=.5m)

                                      Scraps In                  1  m

Added last week:          5 m

Year to date:            42 m bolt 27m bucket batiks 15m

Net added in 2023          23.5 meter

Something gets stitched nearly

every day in the sewing room

but I did take a month off when we went on a holiday

so I am activily stitching extra!! A hard task but

someone has to do it!?!

Happy Stitching!

Quilting under pressure---or not!

Well sometimes things don't go as planned

but we resolve the problem and carry on.

 Last Friday was an adventure!

The day started out  delightful! My sewjo is back in full

force. I had even quilted up two tops and trimmed them,

don't they make a pretty pile!

 All that productivity

lead me to happily carry on into Friday night and begin

quilting up a large pink log cabin.

 Everything was going smoothly.

I was listening to a Marvel Movie, Universe of Madness

with good ole Dr. Strange.  Around 9:30 I flipped the quilt

over and saw nothing but loose stiches and loops!!! Argh!

The madness got me. I had no choice but to grab Jack and

start pulling.  The only good thing?  The stitches were loose

enough to come out easily and the needle holes seemed to hold

the sandwich together so I didn't have to repin!  What a mess!

Threads everywhere! The removal took the rest of Friday and

some of Saturday afternoon. Then I tried to figure out the

problem . First changed the needle. This of course, lead me into a

nice rewarding needle sort (don't all quilters have a little OCD

lurking inside?). I set aside 2 extra packets of  jersey needles,

some double needles (not sure why I have  those),

and found 8 unknown needles I can use for jean repairs.

My needle stash is now down to a manageable size.

After the little side sort and I was back on the case.

I rethreaded and the test strip sew showed the same problem.

Hmm.  I'd pulled down the built-in walking

foot when I started this top so I put it back up and

used my zig zag foot.

Bingo, nice even stitches on the sample so I was back in business.

A bit of stitching Saturday and by Sunday evening, I could increase

my pile of "quilted needing a binding".

Quilting is always a learning experience!

Don't get loopy!

Stay safe and sew on!

Wonky Wobbles.

A brave new morning and I am starting to

quilt with my stop/go button.  Of course

I chose a large heavy project as the initial

task but needs must ! This the parent quilt for

my next family pair set.

 The beautiful baby

girl arrived last week so this is next on the agenda!

My wonky log cabin has a double 80/20 batt.

The new mom is from Halifax so cold winters and

warm blankets are a way of life.  We freeze here in

Alberta most of the time so double batt it is!

The sandwich ended up quite heavy but my

quilting setup supports the project well and

carries the weight for me.

The quilting pattern is just a variable

sketch line across the color block.

There are even a few little I spy

items in the strips. A pair of Christmas stockings,

a cute panda,

and even a little blue creature peeking
out next to the lady bug strip!

Stitching down the length of the block

sections make less seams to cross.

The stop/go button was very hard to get used to!

I keep putting my foot to the floor like I'm

teaching a teenager to drive! The stitching keeps

going until you hit the button!  Getting the lines

in the correct place while hitting the button takes a

bit of finger dexterity. Jack the Ripper and I had to

correct a few jig jags but my driving is getting better!

Another hour (or two) and I trimmed, bound and labeled!

I added an orphan block from a friend to the label.
It is a nice touch and the little block is no
longer languishing in a box.

The morning sun really

makes the quilting stand out!

Ready to be paired up with the pink

baby log cabin for a nice welcome package!

Stay safe and sew on.

Purple Progress!

Purple is moving right along . The scrap drawer and bag

are sorted and cut into strips and squares, so the purple

hoard is under control. It was much smaller

in volume than the other colors so the trimming

took just one evening.

Just strips left here

and the shelf stash is organized and stable.

A few garlic knots later, and

RSC is done for the month!

Finally got the large log cabin

pinned and ready to quilt,

but guess who arrived early!!

A beautiful bouncing baby girl!

The quilt will get stitched up this

week and my DD will deliver the family set

next week.  Hopefully, I work well under pressure!!

Stitched up an impressive pile of purple for

the log cabin and with a strong dose of sewjo,

a purple, twin sized log cabin is born!

 Now back to quilting that

log cabin and making backs for all those battings

prepared last week!

Busy, busy not time to rest ,

a jam packed schedule is the best !

Stay safe and sew on !
