How many quilts can a quilter quilt?

Looks like it is almost time for a quiltathon!

I was avoiding cleaning my sewing workspace again

so I counted the flimsies, yikes!

1 Alien landing

2 Strippy Gardens

3 blue quilts

4 quilts for family

I think I am channeling the 12 days of Christmas !

The family quilts are all queen size!
There is a lot more members of the quilts in waiting
club but they chose to remain anonymous!
These are the quilts with loose deadlines and
homes to go to.

Quiltathon here I come!

I have a quite a few backs made so once the work table is

cleared off , batting can be cut and pinning can commence!

I think this will be a great To-Do! and monthly

goal too. I will just have to watch for

those Distractions! A room full of endless

possibilities can be a real Siren call.

Stay safe and sew on!

UFO Busting

OMG

Blast from the past!

 Anybody else like sampler quilts?

When I first started quilting, I bought a lot of sampler patterns.

They seemed like good value since they included

multiple block patterns.

This is one that was completed back in 2014!

I sent it to a recent empty nester. The blocks are

a combination of hand and machine quilted.

All are machine pieced.  It was a UFO , partially complete

that was anonymously gifted to me.

Sampler quilts always seem to hold a surprise or two.

Notice this block?

Quite different than all the current " disappearing "

patterns in use now!

Like many of my UFOs , this one had a few

challenges but they were all size related.

I solved them with careful trimming and

a narrow variable width sashing!

The next time I get stateside, I will have to

check its condition!

Samplers appeal to me since they are

basically a technique and pattern tester.

If you discover you really like one block ,

you can make a whole quilt of it and

already have the pattern!

I am not sure if I ever did that!

A few more sampler quilts showed up

in my dig thru photos. Thank you big brother

google for making me explore

( you are out of space, archive ~~archive!)

They may get even their own posts one day!

Way back in the last century!
1999!

This one is a group wedding quilt
for a co-worker.  I did demos for
a few of the blocks and other contributors
found their own patterns.
Gifted in 2012.

One more co-worker quilt.
I must have really liked them to
keep making them quilts!

Steady on Folks!

 Friday already!

Who is the person who first said,

"Days go slowly, years go fast!"?

Well my days are going quickly too!

Sewing, exam help, social help and

some distanced fun made this past

week fly by !

Saw some spring wildlife this morning too!

A cute little muskrat and a crested duck!

A few things are well on their way!

Blues for Baby top is complete .

The back just needs a press, this

lovely widening crumb piece and

it is ready for my next

"Get Quilting!" week!

The Block Bank is holding on to 18 - 5 x10 blocks made

of 2 1/2" squares .  This baby quilt make get an

accompanying queen sized parent quilt !

The Out in the Garden duo is coming along.

Both tops have their inner borders and

the outside squares are almost ready to add!

They have been really fun and speedy to do!

One zoom sew meeting and a long

phone call let me get a few more bit blocks done.

It has been a busy week!  I even found time to
sort out a bookshelf in light of an upcoming reno.

I feel lighter and even more
productive!

To do #5

The weather is beautiful today so
the summer sewing room is on call
for an afternoon of sewing !

Last week's list was well looked after !

~Finish up Blues for Baby  quilt~ Got the top done!

and the flannel back is in the laundry!

~More Cobblestone blocks and scrap taming~
Made a big pile of these .

Even filed them in the corner of leftover items!
I need to find a better plan for my Block Bank.
Right now it is spread out everywhere! It is
more like a treasure hunt than a
vault when I go looking for blocks!
Fun but inefficient!

Made  some Bit blocks too!

~Trim square dance blocks~ no progress

~Finish planning 2 bluesy quilts for the teal ladies~
Changed plan! I will keep striving for blue
quilts for them but found some florals and have
two strip summer tops in the works.

This week's list :
~Summer tops - finish , find backs~
~More scrap taming~
~Make back for Blues for Baby~
~Organize workroom!~

Hope this week is as fun as the last!

Stay safe and sew on !

Out in the Garden!

We have been thru every season of weather

in the last little while. Needing a bit of a boast ,

I strayed away from  my regular scrappy

 projects for something floral!

Digging thru one of my scrap bins,

I found a wealth of floral  bricks

already sewn in rows as well as some

free floral bricks in a larger size.

The narrower rows were sewn together

with a solid green strip.

It all came together nicely ,

and it was fun to do on my little featherweight too.

So I started on the next one with the free bricks.

 A different, wider, green

in between is working great.

Now they just need some edge

finishing and they can be quilted up!

These two lap quilts should provide some

winter reminders of spring for my BC friends.

They certainly used up some floral scraps too!

Distracted by Blues!

I really intended to clear off a scrap table,

but   I got distracted by blues and flowers!

 Looked in my
Block bank and found 26 - 16 patch blocks !

They turned in to this!

and now this!
The center is together!

And now this , top done!

Then back to the scrap table and found a bunch of
floral strips! ( see what I did there?)

Dug out some greens, enlisted the
featherweight in the summer sewing room and ..

Voila!

Next a back for the blues and finish planning out
the green floral.
Some goals for the coming week .

I should add " Stay focused"!

I think this Blues for Baby is
one of those drop everything
and make projects, I couldn't resist
the call of the sixteen!

Take me to your leader!

Finally! The Aliens flimsy is finished.

Not sure what the final name will be

but it turned out well.

The hints of wheel colors in the border

pull it together and the grey seems to be very unifying.

The little corner spider webs couldn't be cuter!

A few learning/reminders

during the finishing of this top.

first reminder~ Press press press.

The pressing on the blocks and borders

really assisted in helping achieve a flat top

second reminder~ measure the center to fit the borders.

Measuring and fitting the borders to

the top makes the quilt body nice and square.

Any additional borders go on like a

breeze if the quilt body is all squared up.

learning~all my flimsies have the edges

stay stitched.  The seams open up while

marinating if they are not secured.

This time , the feed dogs were pulling on the

seam edges and they were being pulled

open and stitched down. Argh!

The solution was to stitch with the seams up

and with the body of the quilt completely in

the machine throat.

The 1/4" foot blade

pressed the seam down and the stitching

was perfect without bunching or pulling!

This was a great quilt to make and

looks nothing like the original inspiration!

Stay safe and sew on!

Update !

This is now quilted and spent a month on

the bed in celebration.  Aliens almost went

out the door as a retirement gift but the

alien them appealed to inner space nut too

much and it just had to become a member of my

Cozy Collection.
