Finally! The Aliens flimsy is finished.
Not sure what the final name will be
but it turned out well.
The hints of wheel colors in the border
pull it together and the grey seems to be very unifying.
A few learning/reminders
during the finishing of this top.
first reminder~ Press press press.
The pressing on the blocks and borders
really assisted in helping achieve a flat top
second reminder~ measure the center to fit the borders.
Measuring and fitting the borders to
the top makes the quilt body nice and square.
Any additional borders go on like a
breeze if the quilt body is all squared up.
learning~all my flimsies have the edges
stay stitched. The seams open up while
marinating if they are not secured.
This time , the feed dogs were pulling on the
seam edges and they were being pulled
open and stitched down. Argh!
The solution was to stitch with the seams up
and with the body of the quilt completely in
the machine throat.
The 1/4" foot blade
pressed the seam down and the stitching
was perfect without bunching or pulling!
This was a great quilt to make and
looks nothing like the original inspiration!
Stay safe and sew on!
Update !
This is now quilted and spent a month on
the bed in celebration. Aliens almost went
out the door as a retirement gift but the
alien them appealed to inner space nut too
much and it just had to become a member of my
Cozy Collection.
