Count Me in, 8s & 10s

Woohoo! It's turning out to be a good

morning here in the sewing room.

The bottom of a rabbit hole,

8 x10s are coming along nicely.

The real name for this pattern

is something like 6 and 8s.

I'm using an 8" and 10" variation of my own,

solely because it worked with what I have.

Strings of various widths are edged

by black on  two opposing sides.

Here is my progress.

I have enough for about 1 1/2 twin

sized quilts.  I'm aiming for 2 twins.

Here is my source.

A bin of string/scraps and other

hidden treasures.  Look what I found!

A project ready to go:

A dazzling pile of chunks:

(look at this one!)

and a raft of light/low volume strips

I'm going to be stitching up the blocks into tops

as soon as I get the dividing

black strip on the last few edges.

Stay safe and sew on !

Jumping Onto a Spring Fling

The deep, dark hole of YouTube videos a

Facebook links, has coerced me into jumping onto

a Canadian scrap quilter's Spring Fling sew along.

I had a pleasant few evenings stitching up

even more low volume scraps strings and bits,

into sashing to to join other unknown

components to complete a mystery.

Sew far I am only up to clue two, but it has used up

a considerable amount of scraps and bits.

Clue number two looks like a diagonal

string block so it should be easy to stitch up.

The design wall has been cleared and

currently holds the start of the

sashed crumb squares. They got off to a bit of a false start,

as the frame I used for the crumb squares was

a gray that turned out to be just too dark.

It has been replaced with a gray print

that seems to be doing the trick.

I'm excited to get more crumb blocks

into a top!

This will end up hopefully using 16

of the scrap squares.

I found even more crumb squares

when I was cleaning up last night!

My BB is coming up for some stitching and

a quilt show so I need to make room for two!

Have a great week stitching!

Stay safe and sew on.

Hopping To It

The Hopscotch top is finally complete.

It was first finished up a few weeks ago,

but the size was a bit small at a 56" x 64"

so I upped the size by 8" so now it

measures a nice 63"x 71".

Here it is with the additional top row,

all sides pinned and ready to stitch and,

finally all sides on. A nice press

and it's time to audition some backings.

The organization bug bit me,

I tidied it up a closet and happened

to find a small bin of yardage for quilt backs.

This Hopscotch is getting a nice green check back

with small baskets of flowers.

There were enough 3-4 meter pieces

that 3 more quilts now have backings!

The Sea Glass will get this nice gold

enhanced backing.

The first of the blue scrap strip quilt is getting

a muted striped backing that

mirrors the stripes on the front.

 The multicolor strip quilt will

be backed with a small floral print with a

black background.

It turned out to be a very productive start to the week!
