Curvy Log Cabin Pair.

Here is a lovely pair of quilts for a

family friend.

The wedding quilt is a large, king sized

log cabin.

Oddly enough, they had purchased the painting
for their new house before I made the quilt.
I had not seen the painting!! What wonderful serendipity!

I made a matching baby quilt for the

family baby. It measures  43" x 43" and has a

lovely fuzzy back.

 Both of these quilts

were made using a specialty ruler by

Creative Grids.

A Colorful couple!

Finally a quilt  or two for TGIFF

and OMG ( one monthly goal)!

I just wrapped up the binding on

this Rainbow framed string quilt.

It measures up at 78" x 88".

The companion baby quilt is flannel backed

and finished at a nice 41" x 44".

It looks like our rental dog was really
wanting me to finish up this top!

A good amount of scraps go into the making but of

course the supply is not running out any time soon.

Scrap whites were used for the central

white strips as well.

I use all varieties of print fabrics

but I make sure to use those with

minimal white background.

A 80-20 Hobbs batt is inside so it will

be warm but not too heavy.

This quilt is graced with my first ever

monogramed/ signature binding.

I forced myself to sit still long enough

to program my name and date on the binding!

Once I figured it out, I added three

variations to the machine memory.

I will still add a label but the

binding accent was fun to do and will

be a nice surprise when found.  I will also

start putting other encouraging thoughts

on my quilt bindings. Who knows when

words of encouragement may make a difference.

Stay safe and sew on !

Sew baby, Sew!!

Well, my Wednesday Scrap delivery arrived!

Two great big containers of beautiful scraps.

I always love receiving scraps. They are

interesting since they are someone else's

choice and always exciting and much

different than self produced scraps.

Of course I had to dig right in.

I have other bins waiting but the last in

hasn't been explored yet so here we go!

One bin contained lots of lengths of yardage strips.

This quilter uses the length of the yardage for all

her quilt borders, so this pile is wonderful to behold.

A few are actually the same as fabrics I

have!  I found some real surprises!

A two toned length cut from a

border print will lend my blue squares lots of interest.

A nice pile of black strips can be trimmed up

for sashing for a 4 patch scrap quilt I have

on the go. It will be similar to this one.

A few super hero and children's prints

will get added into my growing stack for

a wild weekend of  I spy quilts I have been

planning, and oh those strips !

I can string all summer on the wealth of strips

I am pulling out of this box!!

The second bunch of scraps came via

another city from a mutual friend.

(Thank you for being my enabler!)

They decontaminated in her garage

for a month to ensure they were virus

free. There is a cute little zippered rice bag,

stuffed with patterned goodness,

and look at all this chunky wonder!

Christmas in March for me!  A great birthday month.

The phone rang while I was writing up this post,

and ... more scraps! Of course I accepted the offer

and here is what arrived.

Some lovely quilt edge cut-offs in the smaller  bag

and Ziplocs full of projects ends for me to
delight in! These two great pieces were right on top!
I find the sayings on this fabric are just for me!

Sew I should get to the machine!  First up is the
binding on this beauty.

The flannel back for the matching baby quilt is in the wash,
so the set should be complete before Adalyn gets too big.

Stay safe and sew on!

Birthday Bonus and Lots of stitching!

 Well , a birthday week,

lots of stitching, organization

and sorting!  Busy time all around!

Beautiful flowers, tasty homemade cupcakes and

lots of visits made it a wonderful weekend.

First off, my zen quilting technique,

(quilt everything that falls off the shelf),

got me this week and a stack actually

fell down while I was on a zoom meeting!

The pile was yellow tho so, at least it was

this month's color!!

The scrap piles were getting out of hand,

so organization and some good music

took over. I rearranged, putting the fat

quarter-sized piece stacks closer to where

they can be used. This of course, just means

lower shelves! I think I have a few more cycles

of  Rainbow Scrapping here. Each cubby has

four stacks of chunk piles! Sew on!

 Large backing pieces that

were taking up shelf space, were measured, refolded,

put in a bin and a snippet put onto a reference sheet.

I can easily choose backing fabric with out unpacking

and remeasuring, yay!

Some droopy wood shelves were flipped and

mixed color yardages stacks were reorganized.

All in all a rewarding afternoon of organization and sorting!

Then I got to stitching up some yellow crumbs blocks.

That lead to a resort and count of my block bank crumb blocks.

I seem to have accumulated 55 -12 1/2" crumbs squares

of various colors! Forty nine squares will make a nice

84" square queen sized quilt.

Hmm an new top may come into being soon!

My RSC top got a mellow yellow row with the

neutral border added. All ready for next

months color there!

Getting on to my OMG  -one monthly goal,

I pulled out batting and backs

and got two large quilts pinned up.  Some large pieces

of batting got stitched up and two more twin quilts

were ready to get pinned up!!

Woot woot! Now for

some intense time quilting up those sandwiched quilts!

A birthday visit from the pipeline couple got me inspired

to clear off that layered bulletin board.  Wow, there

were surprises under those layers! I removed 4 quilt tops and

found this! It is interesting how some items are

no longer important after aging a few years!

I found this cute little Hawaiian shirt.

The buttons are so tiny! I don't think I will make another of these!

This paper pieced pattern might be great for a

weekly project to get ready for the holidays! Such

cute little blocks!

I even found a bag of western shirt accents that

I planned to use for geocache prizes one summer.

I need to get into that to explore the countryside!

Now I can go back to using my bulletin board as

design wall without too many treasures behind.

I want to finish this post with a few pictures of a

support quilt made by my daily walking partner.

She put this together in support of the Ukraine

and it is off to raise relief funds.

Her Thursday group was doing a kaleidoscope/stack

and wack with a beautifully colored fabric.

                                          She created this star,

surrounded by pieced arcs of color.

Even the corners use the starter fabric
 and have tiny pieced units.

Yellow is so mellow!

I had no idea I had so many yellows!

I felt sure I used them all but the yellow

scrap bag is quite full!

So far, in yellow, I  have:

9 little houses (gold colored),

and 6 star blocks. I had to go back and do up
teal and red blocks to catch myself up.

I keep finding more patterns I want to make!

The star surrounded blocks were quick to do

since I had a pile of stars in the block bank.

I also made 6 crumb blocks from the last

of the teal.  There are only a few

scraps left now.

I have almost all of the blocks

finished for 2 large string stars.

I am making a star string quilt. It may have
one star of each color or combine all of them into
one quilt.  It really depends on how many
stars I can complete! Lots left to do I think!

Stay safe and have fun sewing on!!

At the speed of light!

Wow, time keeps on  ticking, ticking into the future!

No spring here yet , still cold and snowy.

Lots on my list to.

First up , finish stitching up backs.

Two are ready and hanging in the vault.

One more to go and I can start layering.

I keep changing my process. I sew all the rows

then press, or press between each row, or only press

after they are completely together ( not ideal).

The best process seems to be pressing after

all the rows are stitched, but before the rows

are joined. Always learning!

First to layer is the pair of   Rainbow strips.

The recipient, sweet little Adylyn ,

arrived 2 weeks early! Her folks will

get the matching big one. I will have to

start another one for myself. I really like the pattern!

Then on to finish the corners for the

 APQ sew along Many Strips.

I have quite a few units left

so it should be just assembly.

I had to square up the center with some

wider seams and creative pressing but it is

laying nice and flat now,

ready to join up with the borders.

Border work took up a lot

of Monday but zoom meetings make the

work go smoothly.

This large neglected bin of treasures
 got pulled into action.

I found more low volume bits to use up !!
Just like Christmas to discover new usable bits!

Lots to do for the week and the month!

Stay safe and sew on !
