Right Beside Me

Trying to clean and organize led me to a great Revelation.

 Sometimes the answer is nearby.

All of us experience experience overcrowding 

on our workspace at some time.

My issue were all the boxes of accessories

as well of all the bobbin holders.

I was drowning in supplies!

Examining the wall by  my sewing machine,

I was considering a small shelf or drawer unit hanging on the wall.

Then I realized, I sew at a desk..... 

with drawers.

The bottom drawer is the  place for 

all the sharp objects when the GKs or non-sewers come down.

 The top two drawers however,

 were just full of odds and sods.

A bit of a clean out and a perfect place for not only 

accessory boxes and bobbin holders 

but also the sewing manual.

The manual was getting tatty for being 

moved and pushed around so much.

 This stitch card can also be stored in a drawer. 

The machine storage for it is not ideal. 

Either it's too tall , or obstructing 

the throat area. 

A nice clean out and some separators

and I've got a lovely storage area and 

have reclaimed my workspace.

What Goal For April?

 Well,  It's time again for some more 

stroller quilts and finishing up some

 projects hat have been waiting for a while.

Lots of Dickens (Orphans) blocks

need to be used up or shipped out.

This is all in the spirit of "Soon to be Spring" cleaning!

First up is going to be the 

Swimming Upstream fish top.

I certainly made way too many

 blocks when I did this a few years ago.

These are extra blocks?

I think I really needed more variety 

and that's why I ended up with so many extras.

This quilt was all planned out at one point in time,

But I obviously didn't take a picture, 

so I had to come up with a new idea.

The very soft colored yellow should help 

unify the delicate center and bring it all 

together. 

Lastly will be the random squares 

that were lurking everywhere. 

They all went on the wall and this is 

what came out.

Five by five colour square blocks

will be alternated with  guitar print

Squares to make a nice size stroller quilt.

The remaining larger blocks will be put 

together in columns alternating

with 16 smaller blocks.

A dotted medium brown fabric

 will be used to unify 

with alternating strips between the vertical columns

That should keep me busy

for the rest of the month of April!

A Little Gem

 My stash clearing friend,

 gave me some string blocks that

 she'd foundation pieced a while ago.

Last week I stitched them all up with two colored borders .

 The blue looked great and I found 

a red that complemented it.

The first day of the sale I managed to stitch the rows together.

She used a muslin square for the foundation.

The muslin doesn't add much weight to the top itself 

and it does provide stability to bias scraps.

They were stitched together 

in an alternating pattern and the additional border

will make them a nice baby quilt size.

It is off to the charity today for quilting and distribution.

I think it's a great way to say goodbye

 to a guild when you're moving away is a nice quilt donation.

Let's clean the sewing room!

 So first, let's clean off this end of the sewing table.

I just took a minute (57 miniutes) and stitched up

 these eight blocks left over from a guild demonstration night.

They are sewn onto gridded interfacing.

 

Then a break for lunch. 

Finished up stitching the 

EPP item on this  needle case last night, 

so it can go back into its drawer and off the sewing table.

Next away with all the rulers. 

Then all the reading glasses. 

They really move around the sewing room. 

Now to mend the jeans. 

The owners are coming over tomorrow for lunch, 

so it would be great to have them done.

Next up is to get rid of the scraps on the sewing table.

Let's see if they're going back into a box or into a project.

Sorted by color and put in the drawers, now getting

thru some random paper bits.  It sure piles up even

in this time of tech. 

Just a few things left to put away 

then to move on to the sewing side table.

All the scraps sorted and the thread clean up. 

It is looking great!

I even found a blade for my rotary seam riper!

I found using a rotary cutter is okay in most spots. 

Isn't is tiny?! Even the blade pack is cute.

Let's see how long the side table stays clean!

I always make a bit of a mess when 

a project goes under the needle!

All of this cleaning was precipitated 

by needing to have the work tables cleaned up.

They're off to take part in a

stash clearing sale.

We just need a few more tables to lay 

out all the wonderful whites.

I did manage to kit up a few more

tops from the fabrics on the Discovery table. 

First are plans for another low volume sashed

crumb quilt. This one may have the shadow effect

around the blocks. 

The next are two sets of 

blocks to be joined together for tops. 

Then two sets of small blocks to

be organized around some bigger centers. 

 All the blocks are bagged up.

 I have labelled them all :

~small blocks

 ~8 "blocks 

 ~9" blocks

~ medium odd shaped blocks 

~squares & 4patch blocks 

~medium large blocks

~large blocks for centers

Wish me luck on keeping track 

of all the bits and stitching them up 

into usable items.

Starry Nights

 It's been a busy week with 

stitching, family and lots going on.

A bit of progress was made on the

new mystery quilt at Conquering Mount scrapmore.

Only four more colours to stitch to finish up step 1.

Another batch of triangles were stitched up

on the way to stitching up some colour 

family blocks for another top from the Discovery table.

I even managed to finish up The Starry Nights quilt top.

Stitching late at night is always fun 

but it comes with a few hazards.

The quilt was so pretty I had to show it off to my husband.

While doing so I discovered this problem.

Can you see it? I see a few minutes with 

my favourite ripping tool ahead!

It is still very attractive but that one error needs to come out.

I also don't like the light background in the star block 

(lower right side) , so that may come out too. 

My  reserve of Wonky pointed stars 

has been diminished immensely.

They will be good to make on a stormy evening this spring.

RSC 2026

Oh Scrap

RSC Plan Finally!

It's already March and I finally have a

 Rainbow Scrap Challenge plan ready.

Some blocks from the discovery table,

were the inspiration.

The first stop for the RSC is 

this colour family strip quilt.

Each block is made up of three columns 12 1/2 "

long by 4 1/2 "cut wide.

Only five blocks needed to be made to finish up this top.

The blocks just need to be stitched together. 

The challenge will begin with the next quilts.

The first will be very similar to this but

 with each block only two 

columns wide but still 12 1/2" long.

That will make nice chunks of colours 

arranged in a similar fashion as the first.

Then I will do a classic step down and 

make the next one only 1 column wide. 

It will really scrap up the top!  

I have lots of scraps to use up!

They will be great projects 

to stitch while my Big Bernina 

is visiting Mr. Fixit.

Have a great time with those rainbow colours.

Side Trip Complete

 Whoo hooo!  What a ride.  

My little side trip went down a

very big side road and the

Northwest Babies benifited very well.

Here is the final line up of the projects

from the last few weeks!

These four tops will be off to

the charity quilters at the guild. 

They managed to tie up everything 

the members made!

Three from the Discovery Table,

and one from a retreat. 

Then there is the pile of stroller quilts 

for the Babies!

They were so much fun to make and 

I sewed up everything on the 

big Bernina except three!

The last were sewn on the Janome after

Big B became overtired and threw

a tantrum, breaking thread, winding 

it around the lift arm and freezing 

me out with an unclearable upper 

thread code.  Off to Mr. Fixit next week. 

Here are all the babies!

A late addition to the pile.  It has 

chicken, pig & cow flannel on the back. 

Just like the book  A Squish and a Squeeze by

 

Julia Donaldson.

These blocks were on the table leftover from a wedding quilt. 

All from the table. The floating fourpatchs,

 front and back were in scrap gifts and the

center came with some strips. 

I even added a little orange flange. 

These were displayed last week. 

This pieced center really wanted the blue back.  

I had another fabric on and 

the pinning just wasn't working, twice. 

The blue back went on smoothly and fast.

 

Quilts just know what is right!

Another late addition above . 

The minty green backs are soft and cuddly.

The little 3/4" finished strip log cabin got a soft snowman backing. 

The adapted table topper has matching flannel backing!

The purple star was left over from the string year a while back . 

The kitty print really suits it!

Hand quilted hearts and a scrappy flannel

 back are nice for this little one too!

Sweet leftover blocks from the table again make a 

cute stoller quilt. Thank you PB!

The Discovery Table is looking empty!  There are still 

more tops to find!
