Hip Hop Hopscotch Complete!

The first of the two Hopscotch quilts is complete.

It gave me great practice on the stitch regulator,

and by the time I was finished, I felt very confident.

Each of  the whirly gig blocks received

a stylized swirl surrounded by flower petals.

It is a cute pattern and compliments the

playfulness of the quilt quite well.

A little surprise popped up during quilting.

One of the gigs was turned the wrong way.

There was just enough room between the previous quilted portions,

so I picked out the square and turned it.

Then two patterns ended up side by side.

I found a happy substitute, stitched it back up

and carried on.

Recently, I found an error in block placement

when I was quilting,

and just merrily stitched over it.

That's a story for another time,

The whirly gigs are also a great way

to use up the tail ends of

binding strips since they are 2 1/2 " wide.

Oddly enough,

I still have lots of little bits of binding strips!

How many whirly gig quilts can I make?

It would be fun to make them with a variety of

light backgrounds, maybe pale solids?

Setting the blocks on point would give it a totally different look too.

I just found a double whirly gig too!

Hmm, lots to think about.

The last of the green check was used on the backing.

It sure is a great all purpose fabric!

It must be said that completing a quilt like that is very fun.

The binding went on like a breeze since I had just

finished up binding a very large quilt.
