Flimsies in Waiting

Lots of flimsies are waiting  to be quilted.

They have all moved to my work room quilt rack.

This post Next Up to Layer from a while ago,

featured  a few tops I finished and their corresponding backs.

Here is a compilation of what needs to be quilted.

The backs being ready

makes an evening pinning frenzy much more fun.

Here are the five tops that have backs chosen/ready.

These are the tops that need to find  a back!

It always seems to be the part of quilting that takes the longest,

deciding which back to put on which quilt!

It is an agonizing thing for me to find the perfect back.

I don't try to make them match the front,

but I do like them to compliment the front design in some way.

Either picking up a colour, picking up a pattern,

or even picking up the general theme of the front.

Sometimes it's even the recipient that dictates what the back will be.

So this post will be a nice place to keep track of what I have

that is ready for layering.

I went to a guild Zoom presentation recently

and the presenter was a very vibrant quilter from California.

She quilts under Pride and Joy quilting.

The most important take away for me

was her attitude about the outstanding projects

She moves on to other projects as soon as she wants.

It takes the joy out of things if you make it a job or a task.

I really embrace

that take on how to view your UFOs.

So this keeping track of my flimsies

is only be a pleasurable task  for me and

not a what I have to do type reminder.

Here are the last two added to the list

and then on to some stitching!

Stay safe and sew on !

  1. Oh those flimsies and backings! I hear you! | have two quilts already layered and my goal is to quilt at least one each month. I spend a lot of time choosing the 'right' backing too, unless I piece the backing. You have some beautiful flimsies waiting. You can do it!

  2. I think the back sometimes is where I get stuck too. Typically because I don't have big yardage in anything so I have to piece two different fabrics together to make a back. How do you quilt these by the way? Do you have a go to motif you use to get so many done? Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

    1. I quilt depending on the forever home for the quilt. I send out wedding quilts for
pantos unless it really lends self to a straight line pattern and then I do it myself.
I do some quickie straight line quilting for charity quilts, because the popular quilter once said I'd better finish than perfect. I do try to challenge myself sometimes to just try a different technique. Sometimes successful sometimes frustrating but always learning! Have a great week.

  4. I dislike having multiple projects in progress. I prefer doing one quilt at a time. And I am in a quandary because I have 2! unfinished right now. I know, I know... stop whining. ;) Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell

    1. It is all about what makes you feel satisfied inside. Sometimes , I too like to clear the table and get it all done! Happy stitching!

  5. Hi Deb, it's wonderful that you now have a lot of quilt tops and backs matched. When you'll be in the mood, there won't be any scrambling. My least favorite part is the one after that - the sandwich! Thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks!

  6. So many fun, pretty tops here! Always great when you can get your backs corraled with their respective tops. I see you work scrappy alot so I can see where you might not want to think about backings until after you piece your tops. It's always a luck up when I plan a project and then "discover" the perfect backing fabric right from the beginning! For me deciding how to quilt them tends to be the sticking point.

    1. I do waffle over the quilting too! I am not skilled there so I try to do lots of straight line combos that look interesting!

  9. Your tops are AMAZING!! Of course they deserve just the right backing! Sometimes you just have to wait for the right fabric to come along. Recently I chose two different backings for a quilt before I found a third one that was just right.
