Hung up on Mojo Blocks

The Mojo blocks are coming right along.

The problem how I had however was how to organise them.

I wanted to be able to see what I had gotten done,

without having to constantly

match them up with a pattern in the book

or search through a pile of blocks.

Here is my weird solution!

a printout of the 1 to 100 block numbers on

a sheet of address labels, keeps the block sorted.

One is stuck on the upper corner of each block.

A small check on the pattern page  lets me know at a glance

which in the book are complete.

Now to take care of the pile of blocks.

I looked up and there was my answer.

Lots of empty wall space by the ceiling!

Now the blocks are all lining up across

the top of my sewing room!

It will be fun to see them marching

across the top of the room.

There should almost be enough space for all 100!

The Stash Numbers are Looking Good

Finishing up a quilt always moves the stash numbers,

and it's very exciting too.

The first Hopscotch finish has put my numbers

well in to the negative incoming fabric for the year.

A twin size it will knock down my fabric intake by 6 m .

Yay! I stopped counting scraps in and scraps out

but I haven't received any scraps recently so it's looking good.

I chose two scrap bags from an EPP

to be the supplies for my Mojo blocks,

so those scraps are actively being depleted.

Here is the stash update!

When the binding marathon is finished,

the numbers should really move!

Whoops how did that little houseguest picture sneak in!

Mystery Solved

This quilt was a Guild mystery project that ran

for 6 months. This year seemed to be a mysterious year,

because I was involved in two mystery sew alongs not just one!

The total quilts from the mystery work equals three.

The Spring Fling sew along top ended up so

large that I cut it in half to make two twins sized quilts.

The twin quilts aren't done yet but the guild mystery 24-25

 is currently under the needle.

It is getting a wandering leaf.

First in white thread down the white pieces.

Then a multicolored thread will do the same in

the colored squares.

Bound up with a nice red,

it will be a great winter warmer.

Ta da!

The result is quite appealing and the

original design by my friend MA made it

 an easy to finish project.

Where's My Mojo?

My best buddy was commenting the other day

on a Saturday group she's in that is sewing  Mojo blocks.

They called them Mojo because they will be

inspiration to sew more and

create an interesting sampler quilt together.

It took me 4 weeks weeks to realize

that we're actually in the same sewing group.

I just happened to be away

the day they talked about doing Mojo blocks!

The blocks will be taken from the Tula Pink book

100 Modern Quilt Blocks.

I picked up my copy a number of years ago by

cashing in a gift card at a sewing shop.

My best buddy was with me so we thought

we would both sew blocks and

put together quilts from this book.

In the few years from that date,

she's sewn two sets of blocks.

I have completed five blocks total.

Luckily for me,  one of the blocks I have done,

ones chosen by the mojo group!

The block is drawn randomly once a week and

emailed to the group.

We can all work on them together on Saturday sew days.

All of them will eventually be

chosen so any I do are a bonus.

A few more are finished too.

All the material is coming from this big bag of scraps!

Happy Stitching!

Filmstrips

These two strip quilts are both bordered

with some variety of film strips.

I really like the look of a small square

lining the edge of a quilt,

and this strip column design gave me

an opportunity to try two variations.

They were all pieced during a cold snap last winter.

Both quilts are variations of the Indigo Blue pattern

which inspired  this quilt.

It was quilted with circles on strings.

This  blue and red was the first in the trio of quilts produced at

the start of a year of strings and strip quilts.

Number 1

Number 2

This was quilted with kites in a general meander.

The blue, low value fabrics seem to make patterns that

are more reminiscent of film strips than the

lights and varied colours in the third quilt.

Number 3

It is still very appealing though.

This quilt has little trees running up and down the columns.

Off the Rack!

Having a lot of quilt sandwiches made

has helped me finish up outstanding projects

by getting me to the quilting machine easier.

When I have a few hours free,

I can sit right down and start stitching.

Here is the first of many  finishes.

Looking at my recent posts,

I see that a few finishes have snuck into other posts

but haven't really been highlighted.

So let's back up and look at these beauties.

Both appeared in a stash report earlier in the month.

The Thousands Found top, was found in the stash

of  no longer quilting woman whose

fabric piles had gotten out of hand.

An exquisite piecer, each of the pyramids has beautiful points.

and the range of fabrics appear to span decades.

The quilting ran around each pyramid to maintain the classic shape.

Although smaller than my normal keeper quilts

 that are usually queen sized,

this one will make a lovely addition to my  cozy collection.

The second quilt that had a sneak peek

 in the stash reporting post,

has a history too!

This quilt started out as  a green and white 25 patch.

It just seemed to be too green for  me,

so it was put aside.

It was  reimagined when I came across

a stack of leftover colour coded

"near postage stamp" blocks

from a guild turn of the century  swap.

It turned out to be quite dazzling.

It will be labeled,  2000 Colors.

A checked green back seemed just perfect as an

homage to the history of its making.

More finishes to follow!

The rack is looking lighter!

Stash Report for 16 Nov

Well one week with no new fabric.

The stash numbers will go down since

I have been finishing quite a few quilts!

This week's tally appears to be two.

I get them quilted one a day for a little while,

and then there's a bit of a break

while I figure out the bindings.

Both quilts for this week's count

are string quilts made  inspired by

a pattern Indigo Blue, by Elle Brown.

Blue has been one of my many

favorite colors so I do enjoy

stitching it up.

Here is the stash update!
