Serendipity Mystery Solved!

Sometimes we must believe in serendipity.

My latest UFO has turned out to be the design

written on scraps of paper that my quilting buddy (QB)

has been trying to figure out for 2 decades!

This project got a #12 in the Dirty Dozen UFO

challenge and the August was #12!

So after many 2" squares,

 31-  5 x 10 blocks,

and some assertive trimming to make the edges fit,

the Serendipity Squares top is complete!

My QB has been trying to figure out the pattern for

a box of pieces for 2 decades.  She came for a visit and

recognized the shape of the half block in UFO #12 that

I had laid out on the table,

mystery solved and a name decided.

The quilter's fuse used on many of the center squares

is not too stiff. I used some for the outside border also,

years ago when my confidence in piecing was missing.

UFOs always seem to be set aside for a reason

and I found some of the border blocks were narrow.

Figuring out an easy fix, I used the narrow

blocks in one of the shorter borders and made that border an

unnoticeable 3/8" thinner. It is now ready to enter into the vault

and in line for quilting. September is shaping up to be a major

"quilt those tops" month!

Meanwhile, August RSC is orange and some lovely stars were

stitched up during a friendly sew day.

Very hot here and sewing in the

cool basement during high heat and humidity was a real treat.

A few more rainbow scraps blocks to stitch up and August will have

left the building.

I also discovered even more lint in the bottom of my machine.

It runs even better now!!

One last picture of a wonderful necklace I was
gifted. I guess I've found a use for those old metal
bobbins I was saving!  Stay safe and sew on !

    1. It all started with a jammed thread cutter but the bottom was full of lint too!
I did use lots of 2" squares up but there are always more scraps to harvest.

    1. I always get great compliments on the necklace although some sewers really need one of the bobbins to match a project!
