Look, Progress!

 Well, I actually got

some things moved along!

This little baby quilt has

a back and is all quilted.

One of my former Girl Guiders
asked me if the pattern is a Guide knot,
 and it is very close!

The joy
 of working with scraps
is the surprises you find along the way.
Do you see the little snowman peaking out?

The next block shows an
inquisitive ginger bread man!

Happy accidents both !
Lots of progress on other
fronts too!

Block chain is  almost a  flimsy!

Just six more seams and a trim !

The last of the florals ( 8 in total)

are complete and 1 is gifted. The

second is dropped off  for delivery to

the zebra charity also!

I even baked banana bread

for a new neighbor and met

her adorable English sheep dog puppy!

The bread is the 3 ingredient type

so quick to make but oh so tasty!

They got a whole loaf with
 chocolate chips on top .
Our test loaf was delicious!

A distraction into Pinterest
uncovered some   1/2 patterns
that may be worth a try!

This week's todo list

                    1. Finish up block chain top ( carry over)

                    2. Add borders to the scrap lozenge quilt  ( carry over)

                    3. Organize 1/2 square projects

                    4. Sew up pink strips

                    5. Layer a few flimsies

That sounds ambitious enough for
this week!

Stay safe and sew on !

On the way to an empty spot! Pink Squirrel!

A great time sewing !

Encouraged by my good friend KS,

and some blog friends too,

I sewed up a pile of strips into

piano key sets for future borders.

I needed a place to store these

parts so I pulled out a box of

pink strips thinking I would

do a jelly roll race.

But the strips were already

sewn up into coin units!

Sew today, I will inventory and

enhance and plan a pink top!

The bits will go into some sort of

crumby 12 1/2 " block to clear out that

bin. This may be my first pink squirrel!

I am also making great progress

on my block chain top.

Since it is raining kittens and

puppies here, it is a

great day for finishing

up some projects.

Now back to the pink.

There were enough 2 1/2"strips

to make this little top!

I stitched it up during a

guild zoom meeting. I added the

dark pink rectangles for interest.

The talk was all about quilt batting.

Very informative!

However , I now have another

top to quilt up!

I did manage to make up

some mac and cheese for the kids.

Even found a big bag of crispy

fried onions at the store , yummy!

 They had a great hiking

adventure but came home to

a leaking dishwasher, a broken

washing machine and a soggy floor.

After hiking in to a wintery cabin for

a week it was a shock to come home

to broken appliances!

Just got a note that the dishwasher is

fixed so things are getting better there!

Have a great day sewing!

Oh, and I found this great little

arrangement for half squares to

use as my stop and go quilting!

Stay safe and sew on !

Moving forward , but slowly!

Whew!  Why do ours weeks seem

so busy but progress seem so slow!?

It is getting on to spooky time so

I just had to share one of my

neighbor's answers to decorating!

( From the spooky movie IT)

Any way, we celebrated a late Canadian
thanksgiving yesterday with most of
the family. Lots of fun and food and baby
giggles.

I did have some time this week
to clean my machine.  I
even took off the bottom!

It was definitely worth it .
There was lots of fluff and dust.

When I get stalled out , I do the only thing
possible an .. sort my pins!

Then , still not out of the slump
I did the next reboot item...
I organized bobbins!

That helped with the recharge, so the
next morning I got out my batiks and
worked on some pineapple centers!

I clip the groups of ten together
to keep organized.

The creative grids ruler makes
the pineapple doable for me.

So this week , I will focus on stripping
up the wealth of scraps I have piling up,
making some centers for
bright bits, and more organizing.

Upon reflection, I did
get a few items complete from last week!

                         1. Packing up 4 quilts for health care

                           workers.  All done and shipped!

                        2. Prep a new project or 2 just for fun

                            Doing this now!

                        3. Finish up the last floral Final florals are complete!

                        4. This small top will get a scallop border after
quilting and already has three places to be!
It is making me fall back in love with
                            scrape white backgrounds! 👎

                        5.  The corners did get mitered! This baby
quilt from left over blocks will get
a fuzzy blanket back and no scalloped edge.👎

                        6. Get that block chain pieced !👎

So, my mojo sewjo should be
back on track shortly!

Stay safe and sew on !

Needle and Thread Thursday

Wow, way up North!

 Great night watching the

Aurora borealis dance over

our small Alberta town tonight!

Got some great advice to
 use the night setting
on the camera to get
 stunning pictures even
if the view is muted
due to city lights

Spent some time stitching lots

 of string squares,

 cleaning up scraps and

 finding yet another

project that has to be made!

A large bin of scraps

 is almost used up!!

I went from this bin, 3/4 full,

down to 3 small boxes , sorted!

Feeling pretty happy about that!

It is also a great fall day here,

woke up to ...snow!

It didn't last, but Mother Nature

seems to be changing the season

slowly for us.

Now here is planning for the week ahead!

                        1. Packing up 4 quilts for health care

                           workers.

                        2. Prep a new project or 2 just for fun

Last week's leftovers are  getting added
 to this week's plan:

                        3. Finish up the last floral

                        4. This small top will get a scallop border after
quilting and already has three places to be!
It is making me fall back in love with
                            scrape white backgrounds!🎃

                        5.  The corners did get mitered! This baby
quilt from left over blocks will get
a fuzzy blanket back and no scalloped edge.

                        6. Get that block chain pieced !

                              1. My walking buddy brought

over 2 gorgeous quilts

for donation to Health care workers.

Both classic patterns.

She has a fantastic eye for

color and design.

2. I found a wonderful pattern

at Andover fabrics, thanks to

The Objects of Design.

It is bright 5" squares with

 white and black backgrounds.

Mine will be done with

scrap sashing .

       3. The last floral is under the needle

today and the binding is ready.

4 & 5. These two scrap quilts are

ready and waiting to be layered.

6. That poor block chain has got

to come off the wall! It is

crypto currency themed

so it should be moving!!

Have a great week !

So on and sew on!

 So on and sew on!

What a marvelous time

this sewing adventure is !

It seems to run the whole course

of joy and sorrow. Got a call

for quilts for health care heroes

in this time of trial, (the sorrow)

but the creative outlet and pleasure

from stitching is so great!

Now on to the stitching!

Cleaned off my sewing desk

yesterday by spending the whole

evening crumbing up this pile of

scraps! Notice the new verb there!

Then, since I seemed to be on a roll

and my featherweight was humming,

I worked on emptying a basket of

strings and pieces! Yay!

I clip these together in groups of 10.

It saves a lot of counting time later.

My daily phone friend

and I, even looked up the birthdates

of our featherweights! Mine is

a 1950 machine and hers is

two years older!

May continue stringing today after a bit of

house and yard work. We have

a visit from the family Drs. too,

( Phd chemists) so busy day for me!

Finishing up the quilting on

the last of the florals too!

Have a great week ,
 and Happy Thanksgiving
to all my Canadian family and friends!

Stay safe and sew on !

Distractions are good!

Wow , what a week of distractions.

Remember those florals ?

Well turns out , 2 more snuck into

the mix and I am spending the week

getting them finished up for gifting!

I am also working on a stitching

guide so I don't have to do a trial

every time I am looking for a quilting stitch!

So lets see what I accomplished this week!

                         1. put inner border and make outer
scalloped edge border for this small top 👍
                        2. assemble, add borders and scallop
edge a baby quilt from left over blocks👍
                        3. eagerly await  next RSC color!( easy one)
                            Make more little houses. 👍
                        4. finish assembling block chain top👎

1.   The borders are ready for the
small quilt made from on hand blocks.
This is the Leisure Arts pattern. It
uses up scraps quickly.

Here it is hanging in the vault.
It just needs a small inner border and
then I can add the pieced outsides.

The borders have some angled
pieces at each end so it will looks
like the border wraps around the edges.
Once they are quilted , a scallop is
cut into the borders.

2. Got  baby quilt together
and added the borders.

Now to miter those corners!

3. Lime and bright green! Wow!
Made a bunch of houses and some
are indeed bright green!

4 The block chain quilt is still just
hanging out on the design wall. I
added some smaller bits, but
it still needs a lot more stitching!

It should be  a fun and busy time getting
all these projects moving forward.
There is always more scraps to make
plans for!

Stay safe and sew on !

Oh those strings!

Did I show you my most recent

scrap influx? Friends came

for a long overdo quilt chat

and bam! More scraps!

It is always like Christmas!

All these goodie bags made me
get out my strings!
This is definitely one of
my go to blocks.
Diagonal strings are
just like found half squares!

Got a bunch sewed up in the evening.
They get clipped together
in groups of 10.
Yes those are salt cod boxes
I got from my good friend, MV.
They fit sew well  on my shelves
and help tame my unruly projects!

I would like to start tracking my stash
volume but how does one count the
fabric in this bag?

Or this basket?

Tracking should provide an
interesting insight!

The small bag of squares
is already sewn into blocks!
I used quilters' fuse so
it was a lot of fun and
very fast!

There were lots of orange scraps
so off to RSC I go!

Pulled out even more scraps for a Saturday
night sewathon.  Just working on making
another string gradient quilt like this.

The strips had already been sorted out for the
last ones I made so it was a quick project
to sew away a quiet Saturday evening.

Looking forward to sewing up
some scrap blocks tomorrow .
Stay safe and sew on !
