Pin, pin , pin!

My Monthly goal is to get a few quilts

pinned and to get a few quilted too.

So far, I've managed to get four pinned and one started

before we jetted it off with grandkids, to visit an Uncle,

Brother and Great Uncle in Hudson Quebec.

One person, three titles, sounds just like royalty!

We were hoping to have time on the way

back to the plane  to stop and see the

beautiful display of tulips have at the capital and we did!

Some were done, but many were beautiful and

magnificent.  A thoughtful remebrance of a time

of war and gratitude.

Now back to the quilt progress.

I don't mind pinning now that I have

two 6 foot conference tables to use.

My back is rarely sore and the quilts are nice and flat.

I use a set of six clamps to hold the backing down on the table.

The quilt top folded into quarters,

measures the amount of batting I need.

When the roll of batting gets to 1/2 size , I keep it

next to the table and just pull out what I need.

I took the time to make some frankenbatting

while  pinning the last one.

It helps reduce the amount of batting used and

decreases the amount of waste.

There are only so many things I like to do with batting bits.

I will use the frankenbatting to make baby or crib sized  quilts

since fusible web or zig zaging make the joining quick and easy.

So here is the product of the pinning frenzy!

My quilt staging area is getting some relief too!

Before,

and after!  Definitely lookes less loaded,

messier, but less full!

This red log cabin was pinned up

just before flight time!  I packed

the evening before so had time to finish it up !

Once my shoulder recovers from

throwing our bags around,

it will be on into the quilting frenzy!

Stay safe and sew, pin and travel on!

  1. Admire your efficiency. Just before flight time I'm worrying about what I've forgotten to pack

    1. We ended up with almost everything we needed. I only forgot my wireless headphones but my GS kept me entertained on the flight so they weren't missed.

    1. Spray basting always stressed me out, I was so worrried about a wrinkle! So far, pinning works well. Happy quilting!

  3. Such beautiful spring flowers! Thanks for sharing with us! I do the same thing with batting, and it works well in smaller projects to zigzag it together like that.

  4. Such a productive time, you must be feeling very happy. I too zap the leftover pieces of batting together, great for smaller quilts. Hope your break away was wonderful.

  5. There is nothing like having the right equipment and furniture for the job. When I think back to pinning on the floor... Clearly, the back to back tables are allowing you to breeze through your work. Congratulations on making a dent in the backlog.

  6. Well done! It's so satisfying when one stack shrinks and transfers to another! The ladder where to store the ready-to-be-quilted quilts is a great idea, it looks like you keep the backings and bindings with them?
Thank you for sharing, and bravo!

    1. You're welcome. It is great to keep everything together. Then I don't use up the binding or backing for something else!

  7. I have no doubt you'll meet your goal and get a lot of quilts finished this month. You are amazing at finishes! Love that scrappy log cabin. The red fabrics are so vibrant and pretty. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

  8. Loving your red quilt, do you have a quilting plan for it? Batting has gotten expensive so it is a good idea to Frankenstein all we can.

  10. Do you straighten your batting edges before you join? Do you zig zag sew your batting pieces together?
