Well , January has come and gone along
with the declutter challenge. I had fairly good success
with it this year and definitely feel lighter for the
release of some possessions out into the cosmos.
You can see in the sidebar , some are ongoing and are done as
the items come into use. The declutter mindset really flowed over
into everyday and I now have a tidy pantry, mitten/hat
drawer, kitchen snack drawer, cutlery drawer, baking tools
drawer, cosmetic drawer and night stand! Yes, I have a lot
of drawers! Decluttering is a very good habit to add to your
daily activities. Just a bit of organization over time can
really create a very beneficial and soothing environment.
Now, back to stitching and fun !
I am organizing/choosing projects for the RSC year and have
three new projects so far!
The planning really went down the rabbit hole!
I started with the green for the RSC 2024 challenge.
Pulled out the bits from last year fiddle sticks and
made some waffle blocks.
Now I had a pile of green strips, soo..
snuck over to the stash busters challenge and made up a
bunch of 5 x 5 blocks with 2 1/2" squares for the Irish chain.
lovely pattern with 36 patches so more squares and strips went
into 12 of those!
Still more strips and some pieces now so I started this pattern
from Pinterest. Drafted it into the RSC for the year since it uses
1 1/2" strips and will be a good scrap buster.
However now I have a bunch of color family 1 1/2" strips so I
stumbled on this pattern by Ellie Brown (America Loves Scrap Quilts 2008) during the magazine sort.
If you are counting , that is now four new projects found on the
way to finishing other things! I love how that works!
There are also some just medium colored 25 patch I came across,
so they will go into pattern #5 without too much trouble.
Just alternate the 25 patch with light and dark hourglass
blocks in the same color family.
The endless possibility worm really took hold this week .
Stay safe and sew on !

That's a fine batch of greens, Deb! Sounds as though you did well with decluttering and sorting-out this month. The design for the blue strips looks promising.
ReplyDeleteI still have lots of greens! The strip design will be good to clean up quite a few scraps and it is an interesting pattern.
DeleteLovely set of blocks! Each project is a scrap lovers delight. Wow you have a lot of pretty greens. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

You are very welcome. Always loving the linkies!
DeleteI love how RSC can inspire so many fun uses of scraps. Your projects look like they will be a lot of fun to work on throughout the year!
ReplyDeleteRSC is fun and it does help us look at our scraps with an eye toward actually using them!! It is a lot of fun!
DeleteHi Deb, you're really thinking through all of your scrappy fabric uses. Those should be great and relatively simple projects. Looking forward to seeing them happening. Thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks.
ReplyDeleteI will keep you posted , I can't wait to dig into all my colors this year!
Deletecongrats on the tidy jobs and I like the greens
ReplyDeleteThank you , I love greens too. Now we have reds!!!
DeleteIsn't it interesting how this leads to that, and the other! Stitching blocks always adds to more scraps. You have made lots of lovely blocks indeed.
ReplyDeleteYep, I think we will never be short of scraps , Yay us! Stay safe and sew on!
DeleteGreat green blocks, I love your waffle ones! Playing with scraps is fun and endless ;))

DeleteYour "green" projects are great!! RSC is a great way to use up our scraps. I wish I had more time to play along this year...maybe next year!! Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
ReplyDeleteThere is always time for sewing, either now or later. It will come! An old friend told me that when I was so busy with family and volunteering I didn't have time for meetings or quilting.
DeleteGood job on your decluttering. I always enjoy doing that this time of year so have been going at it pretty well myself. Somehow scrap-busting seems to be right in line with it, too. Good luck on your scrappy projects!
ReplyDeleteThank you . I really enjoyed browsing your site yesterday. We're having a bit of weather on our holiday so it was a perfect pastime. So many ideas! Stay safe and sew on!
DeleteYou have some fun projects to use up those scraps. It really does seem that making scrap quilts makes more scraps then they use!
