Well, I am doing it! Earlier in the month
I made the wild claim that July would be
quilting month. There are actually 3
and almost a 4th, pinned and ready to quilt!
The largest obstacle for me and I am sure for
many is the backing. The 20 " square plan
is usually good but it does get complicated
when I try to make a pattern happen on the
back of the quilt. The 20" plan is just
digging into your stash and pulling out
a bunch of fabric to cut into 20" squares
to make up a back. 5 x 5 20" make a lovely
100" square piece that will accommodate
most large back and makes longarmers
happy with lots of extra fabric on all sides.
My BBP ( Bin of Big Pieces) is a great
place to go but I still try to mix and match
to make an interesting back.
The selvage quilt got a nice piece of the
yellow batik. An interesting
set of triangle strips came in the door Wednesday
so the back got a nice accent.
Thank you DD for the great pieces!
again, it was just too narrow and the block bank was
called into action. Lifting it down from its home
let me know just how full it is getting!
This morning, I
did concede to using a lovely piece of
wide back but there will be a snazzy label
going on to dress it up a bit.
Off to pin up some more tops and
then get quilting!
Stay safe and sew on!

Good luck with your quilting Deb. My least favourite part is making the actual sandwich! Take care.
ReplyDeleteI get on a roll and sandwich a bunch , then I can get right to the quilting. I do like to see a nice pile all ready to go, it is very rewarding!
DeleteI love your idea of using 20 inch squares to make a backing! I'll have to try it. Happy quilting!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it really does use up some stash and keeps the back much more interesting!
DeleteFun pieced backings! I need to dedicate a month to finish my quilts too ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your projects, and linking up!
Look at you go!!! I love that idea of 20 inch squares for the backing!!
