September OMG

My monthly goal  is to finish up my wheel chair quilts.

Three are left of the original 10 tops I had planned.

It seems that these little quilts lend themselves

so well to spare blocks, I just keep finding

more partial items to turn into tops!

They are a vey fun and rewarding project.

Here is my favorite.

I will start working on them as soon

as I clear off my work table!

Lots of sewing time for me this week.

When it rains, I sew!

August OMG Windup

Finished 7 wheelchair quilts this month!

Three are left of the original 10 tops I had planned.

It seems that these little quilts lend themselves

so well to spare blocks, I just keep finding

more items to turn into tops!

Next month's goal may be the same,

to finish/make more wheelchair quilts!

Each 36" x 45" quilt has a back pocket

and a small holiday stitchery piece since they

will be  given at Christmas time.

This one has a matching binding.

I used a black binding on this one.

There was enough of the yellow left to

bind with yellow too.

Four more were completed too, you can

see them pictured here

The puzzle feeling of piecing together

orphan blocks and odd block

pieces seems to be contagious

as 2 more sewing friends are

working on these small, useful quilts too!

I will sure have fun making another pile next month!

Stay safe and sew on !

Stash Reporting End of August

Two big finishes for me this week.

They don't count unless a binding is on!

All the quilts I make are machine bound.

As the years march on, every moment

becomes more precious and I love

zipping thru binding.  A few friends

really enjoy the process of hand stitching

a binding and I envy their patience.

Here are the numbers for this week:

 2023 STASH TOTALS

  Used last week:     22 m

Used year to date:       86  m

                                      Scraps out               0. m

                                   (1 bag=/.5 k=.5m)

                                      Scraps In                  1  m

Added last week:        0 m

Year to date:            111 m bolt 27m, bucket batiks 15m

destash gift 68m

Net added in 2023          15.5 meters

Queen sized quilts really up the usage count.

These two beauties are now complete.

This lovely queen is destined to be
a wedding quilt!

A large twin, this wonky log

cabin will go off to a teen in crisis.

This pattern will be made again as

I do love the look of the blue log cabin.

Stay safe and sew on !

Progress and Completion!

Finally, I have some big finishes thanks to

sewing all day Saturday and a Friday Night Sew In.

All that sewing carried on again solo for

Monday and another big top was stitched up.

This will go into my cozy collection if  need

doesn't pop up.  The rainbow design makes

such a great wedding or house warming gift,

that I have made this pattern twice before

but gifted it instead of keeping it!

This 86" x 86" is a real RSC quilt with many colored

string squares and a nice black sashing. Having such

large squares makes it get large fast .

Two or three squares sets of each color

provide lots of variety and opportunity for

each color to shine!

Digging thru my bin of large yardage (say that three times fast)

produced some wide width backing and

this quilt enjoys a grey and

black botanical back.

The smaller blue , 62" x 78" was a joy to stitch and moved

easily under my needle.  I think ease of quilting on a

domestic really depends on the designs that we choose.

Many starts and stops always take me so much longer

and I get a little frustrated trimming off all the little eyelashes

                                    from the automatic cutter.

                                 A cross-quilt pattern or character

stipple really makes the quilting faster and more enjoyable.

This blue wonky log cabin turned out so well

everyone (thing?) is enjoying it !

Pop up Sew Day

A sew day popped up this weekend and

wow did I get in some stitching!

The big work table was cleared,

walking foot mounted and I was on my way!

The smaller project was started and the

blue log cabin from January was first under

the needle.

This top measures   62" x 78"and has a backing made

of 20" squares from my stash.  Making this

type of backing seems to incorporate some fabrics

that are low in supply and clear a bit of room

on the shelves as well.

The log cabin pattern lends itself to almost any

quilting design. I pulled out a completed pink quilt,

and found the quilting followed the color borders.

This blue one is getting a side to side wave.

It covers the area well and is fun to do!

Stitching with a bunch on the Idiot Quilter's

pop up, made the process very entertaining.

Thirty plus quilters joined up and a visitor

from Australia even "popped" in!

Stay stitching the blue right before lunchtime,

let me get to trimming first thing in the afternoon.

So much sewjo was flowing that I jumped right

in  to start on a big block string that has been waiting

since the year ended in a zero!!

The  86" x 86"  lovely got a horizontal wavy line

treatment and wow does it work!

I seem to have forgotten how

much fun actually quilting a project is!! Ensuring

the weight of the sandwich is supported by a table

or even, yes, an ironing board really impacts the

ease of moving the project under the needle!

The end of the work day at 3:30 CT ,(most participants

are from out East),  saw another round of stay stitching!

After a nice trim I could call two tops quilted!!!

If the binding goes smoothly,

next week will see 2 quilts complete. The stash

report will be changing significantly!

Stay safe and sew on!

Stash Report

Ohh , somehow skipped a week on the reporting!

Anywhoo, I did manage to be very busy and

finished up 4 more wheelchair quilts!!

A goodly pile went off for donation.

These will definitely warrant a number change and

inspire me to jump into the 3 larger quilts that

have been creeping toward the quilting table

the last few weeks.

My daily stitching is very consistent

and it is like a little creative nudge to every day!

Yellow is So Mellow

Finally getting into RSC  halfway thru the month!

Seems I never know how many scraps I have until

I start cutting strips!

So far 19 yellow log cabin blocks are trimmed and

ready to join.  Fifty six will make a nice twin sized

so my goal is 37 more.

They are certainly bright and sunny!

Four wheel chair quilts got their pockets and binding

last week too, so I have definitely made progress.

Quite a few of the  stitchery blocks

(gifts from friends, thank you CF)

were used to accent the backs.

They were a hit with my quilting friends,

so the recipients should enjoy them too.

My orphan block pile, (okay it is a basket)

is considerably less full too!

Now, off for more stitching!

Stay safe and sew on !

Finishing up! Some Small Quilts

Some great finishes today.

They are even bound and labeled.

These are three wheelchair quilts.

Each 36" x 45" quilt has a back pocket

and a small holiday stitchery piece since they

will be  given at Christmas time.

This one has a matching binding.

I used a black binding on this one.

There was enough of the yellow left to

bind with yellow too.

These were so much fun to do and only

a small stack left to layer and quilt?!

The puzzle feeling of piecing together

orphan blocks and odd block

pieces seems to be contagious

as 2 more sewing friends are

working on these small, useful quilts too!

Stay safe and sew on!
