The last retreat did not produce a border for
the many strings quilt,
but it did inspire a new quilt using the borders that were too wide .
Pinned up on the design wall it looked like this.
I had great plans to use the sew along
leftover gold 2" strips
as sashing for this quilt,
but they weren't really making the colours pop.
So I started auditioning colours.
Just like Goldilocks,
the black was too dark
there's not enough of this green,
a bit too bright,
a lot too dark,
it's so hard to decide!
Finally, I found just the right one.
Some time was spent repairing the edges.
I'd forgotten to do the stay stitching and with
the curing time it spent in the closet,
there were quite a few stitches that had come
undone just enough to require repair.
So what did I choose?
Green! (I found more)
I'll have to find some more pins!
Stay Safe and Sew On!

That green really does look so much better than the first options. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteThank you ! It does make the colors pop!
DeleteIt was fun seeing all your choices ad the green looks great. Such a fun scrappy quilt.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is good use of something the incorrect size!
DeleteWhat a delightful finished flimsy, Deb! I’m glad you found such a pretty green fabric to complement the other fabrics in the quilt. Happy pinning!
ReplyDeleteThank you ! On to more stitching!
DeleteHow wonderful that you found enough green! Congrats on another scrappy top done. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2025/10/01/wednesday-wait-loss-452
ReplyDeleteWoot, woot! It was good to find that extra chunk of green ! Now what to do for binding?!?
DeleteYou really did find the perfect green for sashing. I got a chuckle out of "curing time" LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks, when projects cure they are always a bit of surprise. A found treasure in the sewing room!
DeleteThat is so fun!!
ReplyDeleteThank you ! It is fun to make use of an error!
DeleteI like the gold sashing but agree the green really makes the colors pop more. Great choice and glad you had enough for the sashing. Have a great week. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings.
ReplyDeleteI do love scrap quilts, and using up a whoops!
DeleteFound this via Melva's blog, where she featured your gorgeous quilt. Beautifully done and very inspirational - my scraps are all calling out to me.
ReplyDeleteHaha, they do pester me frequently!
DeleteI forgot to say how much I like the green sashing. I know that Melva says the blocks/strings can be adjusted depending on the size of scraps, but can you share your sizes on the strings you used?
ReplyDeleteThese strings/ strips were 1 1/2 " as per the pattern in APQ but I usually use 1 1/2" - 2 1/2" Anything larger makes too much of the one color.
Deletebeautiful scrap quilt!
ReplyDeleteThank you !
DeleteYou picked a great sashing for those blocks. Sometimes it's hard to find just the right color that works. Congrats on another finished quilt top.
ReplyDeleteThank you , the tops are piling up. One blogger said " 10 weeks left this year"! That gives me time to do up one pinned top and get them quilted before the year ends!
DeleteLet's go!
Love that green sashing Deb. Congrats on another finished flimsy. Thanks for sharing on To Do Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteThank you ! Now to quilt ahead! ( like zoom ahead only quilt?)
Deletewhat is that sashing on the first picture?
ReplyDeleteIt is just one of the twin Spring Fling sew along tops behind it on the design wall. A colorful strip for sashing would have worked well too, I think!
DeleteLove the green you chose, it's perfect! Thanks for joining in on Home Matters Linky Party! I will be featuring your post this week! #HomeMattersParty xx
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you ! I do like the Home Matters blog . There are so many great ideas on just about everything!
DeleteYeah!! The perfect green, and thankfully you finally had enough of it! Well done with this flimsy, it's beautiful. Thank you for sharing your creative process and this wonderful top, and linking up!
ReplyDeleteThank you and that is one of the reasons I blog. To share with others and get out of my own head.
DeleteBeautiful Inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThank you ! That is such a great thing to say, it really fills my heart to know I can be inspiring!
DeleteKudos on holding out for the "right" sashing, Deb! The green works really well.
