The string fling sew along is almost
to the last step. However, I got distracted and
dug into my UFOs. The 8s and 10s were calling me,
and after I finished a twin size top,
I moved on to the blocks from the string block race.
Those were finished up,
and all the strip lengths were replenished.
some of the sections, but they will still
fit nicely together to make blocks.
The project will be easy to carry to
my weekly stitching group.
One visit to the stitching group produced more partial blocks,
so I went on to finish those up,
trim them and remove the papers from everything.
Now I have 51 string blocks.
After a visit to my daughter,
I realized they're using a queen size quilt on a king size bed.
So.... I took the rest of the 8s and 10s blocks,
and put them together to form nine rows of nine blocks.
This should make a nice 90" by 90",
which I'm advised will be perfect for their bed!
There is still some room on my quilt card
so I can send it off to get a nice overall pattern.
One holiday gift sorted!
I have more leftovers!
Sometimes the UFO's just call to you...best to listen and work on them. :) I like your totes that you carry your parts in. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are great aren't they ! Yard sale bonus!
DeleteYou have awesome string blocks, and they sure make pretty quilts. I'm quite intrigued by the containers with the divider handles in them. Very clever.
ReplyDeleteThank you ! Those handle containers are carriers for cleaning supplies I think.
DeleteThey work very well for scrap/strip dividers and stack nicely.
Just goes to show that UFOs can be "squirrels" too! Even better it got done and then could be added to to make the perfect gift for your daughter. Would that all distractions were that productive!
ReplyDeleteIt is ready to be stitched together then find a back and then off to the quilter! Woot Woot!
DeleteBusy days filled with sewing! I love your scrap happy quilts. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

You are very welcome. I have been sewing up a storm.
DeleteDeb once again I am so very impressed and inspired by your projects and how much progress you’ve made on them. What fun to know that your need to get your 8 by 10 blocks out was a fortuitous squirrel. It will be a lovely gift for your daughter. Thank you for sharing on ToDo Tuesday. I hope you are having another productive, fabric filled week. 😁 Carol
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. I think the more I do the more productive I get? It is like the " busy people can always get another thing done " trope. We get more organized and power thru. In this case tho, it is a lot of fun !
DeleteGreat string blocks, Deb. I love how you know the needed size and that the finished quilt will be loved. I've finished my first string blocks and found them fun to sew but found they did not eat up the scraps like I thought they would, LOL
ReplyDeleteI think it is because our scraps are like drops , a lot of drops can add up to a lot of water , but the ocean is just sooo large! Let' s have a great week stitching!
DeleteHi Deb, it looks like you're taking advantage of all the sewing time you have! A quilt is a wonderful gift - enjoy your weekend and thanks for linking up to FM Mavericks.
ReplyDeleteI have been getting a lot in, but this coming week I need to get to some guild planning and confirming!! Have a great week!
DeleteHow wonderful that you are making a new quilt for your daughter! Glad you were able to have fun stitching this week and I hope next week is just as productive. Thanks for joining us at Monday Musings. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt should keep her and her 6' 4" hubby cozy in the coming winter! I am hoping to gt off the long armer with at least two quilts! Wish me luck!
