First of the strings question

The new year is starting off with a bang.

I'm still working on finishing up things from

last year and since my goal this year is to sew up

strips and strings, I'm working on strips and strings.

I'm trying to whittle down my box of leftovers and

bits of blocks and quilt.

There are an assortment of squares made of strings and strips.

The next step is planning out what to make with them.

I took some figuring, but I have 2 good size

twin quilts planned and it should use up

some good bunches of strips.

The first plan is utilizing twelve and a half inch

cut blocks out of color family strips.

There are some red, purple and blue

in the scrap box.

So I decided to make full length strip sets

divided a vertical zinger.

I made fairly good progress on the

blue the first day of stitching.

Let's see how far I get with this plan.

The next evening really turned up the

strips.  I found more blue already

pieced so I was able to string all

the columns together.

The design wall is getting layered up,

and the log cabin top is peaking thru!

A few colors are hanging out looking

for a spot to participate.

An old favorite was chosen and

here is the result!

One more top for the quilt rack.

All are waiting for a layer and quilting!

Happy new year and happy stitching !

  1. Your quilt rack is full to bursting with tops! Plenty of choice when you get on with the next step of quilting.

  3. Oh boy, such fun with strings! Loving the blue string top and look forward to seeing what you do with the other color blocks. I had finished a string top last year and then made a "project pivot" to utilize some scrappy blocks I was working on. The plan now is to add them to a design that has string units in it. Seeing what you have here, I think I need to pull out the instructions for that so I can do some leader/ender sewing of the strings and get that second project underway.

  5. Love the idea of getting finished with the leftovers. String quilts are so cool. Have you heard of Evelyn Sloppy? I started one of her patterns using strings. I should try to find it. I was new to quilting and was a bit overwhelmed at the time.
